Backing and Laying

The difference between Backing (buying) and Laying (selling)
On Aver, Pro mode allows you to back (buy) and lay (sell) an outcome, while Simple mode only allows you to back (buy) an outcome. It is vital to understand the difference between a back and a lay before you start trading.

What does the term 'Back' mean and why would I place a 'Back' trade?

To 'back' is to trade or speculate that an outcome will happen. For example, if you back Manchester United to win their match, you're betting that they will win. You would profit from Manchester United winning.

What does the term 'Lay' mean and why would I place a 'Lay' trade?

To ‘lay’ is to trade or speculate that an outcome won’t happen. For example, if you lay Manchester United to win their match you’re betting that they will not win. You would profit from either the other team winning OR a draw occurring.
